  • Guided Nature Walk at Smith Creek Park Preserve

    Join Airlie Garden’s Environmental Educators for a stroll through Smith Creek Park Preserve. Learn about the native flora and fauna and how pine habitats thrive in the southeast coastal plains.  Look out for buterflies, wildflowers, native trees and signs of wildlife!

    Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Please wear comfortable shoes. Feel free to bring water, sunscreen, and bug spray.

  • Longleaf Clean-up!

    5pm – 7pm

    Join Fire in the Pines Festival and Cape Fear River Watch for a longleaf pine forest clean-up effort!  A brief history of the longleaf woods behind UNCW will be presented as well as why longleaf pine forests are native and important for this area.

  • Fall Bird Walk

    9am – 10:30am

    Come join Marae West, a member of the Cape Fear Audubon, on a guided bird hike at Carolina Beach State Park! With fall migration in full swing there should be some wonderful birds to be seen. No registration needed. Please bring binoculars. There will be a limited number of binoculars that can be borrowed, but those will be first come first serve. Please meet at the parking lot of the Flytrap Trail. Walk begins at 9am.

  • Hike & Hoop

    Sunday, October 10
    9am – 11am

    Join Island Wildlife for our first Hike and Hoop with artist Kevina Casaletto. We’ll take a hike with one of our Island Wildlife naturalists in Carolina Beach State Park to learn about its unique habitats and then have an outdoor stitch sesh with Kevina. All supplies are included. This activity is appropriate for age 12 and up, minors must be accompanied by an adult. Limited to 10 hoopers. $20.
